Personal Response 5: Earthquakes

1. What are the causes of earthquake?
2. What can people do when there is an earthquake?
3. Do you think scientists can detect an earthquake? If so, how do they do it?
4. Where have earthquakes occurred?
5. Why do these countries have earthquakes?
6. Do you think there will be an earthquake in Singapore? Why?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tectonic plates, are puzzle pieces which bump together causing an earthquake. People can run away when there is an earthquake. I think scientist can detect an earthquake using a machine called "Seismograms". Earthquakes occured in China, near the coast of Peru and on Vancouver Island in Canada. I think they occured there because there was some activity there and it caused the earthquake. I don't think there will be an earthquake in Singapore because we are very tiny.

Personal Response 4: Child Safety Belt in School Buses

Hi Friends,

I think child safety belts in school buses is very important because if we don't have safety belts, when we have an accident, the children will hit the sides and have blood. I think school buses should have the safety belts installed for our safety.

Reflection 4: Food

  • Do you think the food and drinks sold in school café help to provide and promote healthy eating?
  • What are some of the healthier food and drinks provided by our café vendors?
  • What other healthier food choices can you suggest to be included in our school café?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think some food and drinks sold in the school café help to promote and provide healthy eating like watermelons, mineral water and lots more. I think we can put in more healthy food into the school café like some bananas, apples, orange, grapes and lots of fruits. I think the school café has lots of healthy food. We must try to eat the healthy foods but not chips like 'roller coaster'. I will also try to eat more healthy food in the future.

Personal Response 3: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

Here are some questions:

  • Why is it important for children to be kept away from crowded public places if they show signs of infection?
  • Why is it essential to follow good hygiene practices?
  • What does 'good hygiene practices' mean to you?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is important to keep away from places if they show signs of Hand,Foot and Mouth Disease(HFMD) because the disease will spread. You might get infected by it and be really sick. We cannot go to school if we have HFMD or it will spread to our classmates and they would all be sick because of you. We also will not learn lots of new things. We must follow good hygiene if we want to be healthy, not get HFMD and go to school. We must practice good hygiene if we do not know what it is. Good hygiene means being clean. We must wash hands before and after eating, covering our mouths when we cough and sneeze and many more. I wish we do not get HFMD as it is bad.

Term 2 Week 2
Hi everyone, time seems to fly. We are now in Week 2.
For this week, you are given a link. After you have read the story, you will give your personal response.
1.Go to this link: http://sam11.moe.gov.sg/racialharmony/Click on 'Articles' and go to '2. Regardless of race' article.
2. Read the article.
3. Give your personal response to what you have just read.
To help you, I have given some questions for you to give your response. Here are the questions:
a) What do you think is 'racial harmony'?
b) How can misunderstanding among the various races arise?
c) What do you think of Rajah's solution? (He said, "We shan't be Chinese or Malay or Indian. Everyone is the same, no races at all and there will be no more fights."
d) How can we encourage people of different races to be friends?
e) What do you think our school should do on Racial Harmony Day?
In writing your personal response in your blog, please write the title : Personal Response 1: Racial Harmony and include 'AR' as your label for this post.

-------------------------------------------Response--------------------------------------------
I think Rajah did the right thing, I think his solution was good because if he did not not do it, our races will not be friends and we will be fighting each other, we will also not be friends. We can encourage people of different races to be friends by not fighting, show them what being friends is like and say that being friends is good and we do not have to get injured. I think we should celebrate and be happy together in school. I think Racial Harmony is about being friends with other races and not fight. I think it is a very good day.

Welcome back to school friends. Last term, I did badly for my chinese and science exams. This year, I plan to do better and get band 1. I am also going to do better for maths and english and try to get full marks. I will cut out on playing computer and study more. I want to be more hardworking and only play on Saturdays. I am also going to plan a timetable so that I know what to revise on thet day after school. I hope I will get my wish.
